Poltava is the pearl of Ukraine

 

Every Ukrainian city is unique and beautiful in its own way, but Poltava takes a special place as the spiritual capital of Ukraine. Why is Poltava such a special place?

The answer is obvious. This town is well-known because of its history and cultural legacy. Everyone knows about Poltava Battle and victory of the Peter I over Karl XII. Everyone knows the writers I. Kotlyarevsky, N. Gogol, V. Korolenko; the young painter Sasha Putrya; constructors of space rocket systems V. Chelomey, Y. Kondratuk, and recently Europe was conquered by one more young man, A. Danilko ( Verka Serduchka was second on Eurovision) and his song "Lasha Tumby". Of course, you may not know some of these people, but they are as famous in Eastern Europe as Oskar Wild, Padraic Pearse, Roy Keane, Arthur Guinness in the world.

The Poltava region is amazingly rich with its unique history of original Ukrainian culture. Nowhere in the world can you see such pottery made in Oposhnya, or handmade embroidered shirts from Reshetilovka. There is also another world-wide known historical place in Poltava, the Poltava battle field and museum. Those distant past events inspired A. Pushkin to write the famous poem "Poltava".

Poltava is a city of study. More than 30 000 Doctors, Engineers, Teachers, Managers and other specialists study at the Poltava Universities and Institutes. There are some well-known national Universities in Poltava. They are the National Technical University, the National Juridical Academy of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Medical Stomatological Academy, the Poltava State Agricultural Academy and the Poltava State Pedagogical University.
