The Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics is one of the oldest higher educational establishments in Ukraine. It was founded in 1930 as the Kharkiv Civil Engineers Institute. In 1966 it was transformed into the Kharkiv Institute of Radio Electronics. Since 1966 it has been specializing in the field of radio electronics, and computer science. The university has the highest level of accreditation granted by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

The largest and most distinguished University of its kind in Ukraine has a worldwide reputation for research and for teaching.

At present the university trains about 8,500 thousand students, among them more than 500 are international students. All international students are guaranteed university accommodation for the duration of their academic program.

In addition, the university trains students on the basis of higher education and confers the scientific degrees of Candidate of Sciences (PhD) and the highest scientific degree of Doctor of Sciences. High quality of education is ensured by more than 700 highly qualified lecturers, including 25 Academicians; 135 Professors - Doctors of Science; 441 Associate Professors - Candidates of Sciences (PhD).    

The University has many modern laboratories, 34 computer class-rooms, the computer center (about 800 computers used for teaching and scientific work), connected to the Internet,  a large and rich library with convenient reading halls, its own publishing house, the students’ campus, the stadium, many canteens with good cuisine.     

The scientific work in the University is carried out within the frame work of the scientific schools headed by leading scientists. The cultural life is concentrated in the students’ club, where everybody can find an occupation to their taster and to show their abilities. The students actively participate in sport events both in Ukraine and abroad.

 

In 2001 the University was awarded a Silver Stele and a Laureate's Diploma of VII International Academic Rating "Zolota Fortuna" in the nomination "III Millenium Quality of Education".   

 

Students are the winners in "Project Hoshimi" and "Embedded Development" categories of Microsoft Imagine Cup 2008 (held in France) among 370 finalists from 124 teams representing 61 countries.

The progress of the University is associated with realization of the concept of development which is based on the university activities, namely, integration into the European and world system of education and science.

Since its foundation in 1999, the English Media Department (hereinafter referred to as the Department) carry out undergraduate and postgraduate training in English as formal language. Both Ukrainian and international students can take a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Economy and Business, Biomedical Engineering and a Master’s Degree in: Computer Systems & Networks, Systems Programming, Biomedical Computer Systems, Information Technologies of Design, Economics Cybernetics, Information Control Systems and Technologies, Software Engineering. Our graduates make brilliant career in all fields of Information Technology in Ukraine as well as all over the world. They work in all sectors of economy, research institutions, law, finance etc. Their performance is superb.

 

1. Computer engineering                                                                                                   

 

Computer engineering is up-to-the-minute specialty in the computer techniques and technologies. This program covers the most important fields of the IT activity, such as Software and Computer Hardware Design, Microcontroller and Microprocessor systems Design, Computer Systems and Communication Networks. Engineering deals with the hardware, software, architecture, and organizational aspects of standalone and networked computing systems. Our students get deep knowledge and excellent practical skills in the digital logic, computer organization and architecture, microprocessors, microcontrollers' digital systems and integrated circuit engineering. During the study process they use the hardware, labware of worldwide leading companies (XILINX, ALTERA) and hardware development languages (such as VHDL). Software courses include programming languages (C++, Visual C, JAVA, PHP, GPRS, .NET technologies), data structures and algorithms, operating systems, databases, compilers, and software engineering.

Computer communication network courses include material on reliable and secure information transfer protocols, as well as switching and routing through multipath networks. It provides students in the skills and knowledge to design, monitor and manage complex communication systems using the voice, sound, data, pictures or video transmission in wired, wireless and fiber optic communication systems.

Graduates of our specialty can apply discovered skills as software and hardware developer, sys-tem administrator and project manager, network designer and network service provider in the leading companies and enterprises, which operate in the sphere of design, production, adjustment or operation of software and hardware.

Graduates of the Bachelor's Program in Computer Engineering have the opportunity to pursue a Master Degree in Computer Systems and Networks or System Programming.

 

 

Specialist in Economy and Business is able to carry out professional work as an economist-analyst of operations research; economist; economist adviser; scientific officer; can fill an executive position in economics, commerce and business.

Field of Professional Activities: Graduates of the Bachelor's Program work as managers, economists in join-stock companies, state enterprises, banks, tax authorities, and so on.

 

 

 

Telecommunications engineering and the closely related branch of computer systems engineering are projected to see strong and accelerating growth in employment demand, internationally, for the near future. The educational process engages highly-qualified teachers. The Department has multimedia and computer classroom, university laboratories, furnished with up-to-date digital equipment made by worldwide producers: Cisco, Intel, Ericsson, Siemens, Samsung, Sun Rise etc, where students obtain practical knowledge and skills of maintenance, customization, measuring, testing of new generation systems and networks on technologies of Ethernet, Intranet, ISDN, Internet, ADSL2, 2-3G etc, programming methods and computer technologies, business process engineering, rendering of telecommunication services with possibility of remote wireless access to electronic libraries of KNURE.

Field of Professional Activities: Graduates work for manufacturers of radio, television and other audio-visual, broadcasting and receiving equipment. They develop hardware and associated software, including computer systems, interfaces, security devices, data concentration, data transmission, signaling, satellite and radio communications, and telephone equipment.

 

Description of Bachelor Degree Programs in English                                                            

 

The undergraduate programs lasts four years. The Bachelor's curriculum is approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. The curriculum is regularly reviewed and updated by University Education Committee, The Bachelor's Program requires for all students registered to complete a minimum of 150 hours of practice. The practice takes place during second and third year study. Two supervisors are appointed for each student: one in the University, one in an enterprise. The program of practice is a part of training, leading to professional activities. An Experience Certificate is awarded to a student by an enterprise. Bachelor's degree of our University world wide recognized: - our Bachelors (international and Ukrainian citizens) have possibility to get the Master Degree at Universities of Europe, USA, UK, Canada, Australia and so on. Description of Kharkiv

Kharkov  is the second largest city in Ukraine after Kiev. It is an industrial educational and cultural megalopolis with population of around 1.7 million people. The city is located in the north-eastern part of Ukraine, on the border of forest-steppe and steppe zones. It has temperate continental climate with long but not severe winter and warm summer. The coldest month are January and February (-7C), the hottest month are July and August (20C).

The territory of the city is up to 300 sq km but well developed transportation system (buses, trolley buses, trams, underground) makes any part of the city easily accessible. Kharkov is one of the greenest cities of Ukraine. It has more then 12000 hectares of parks, alleys and gardens. Transport system of Kharkov is one of the best in Ukraine. Now, during preparation to Euro 2012, city government repaired many roads and changed some of the marshruts on central streets to make the traffic less heavy. Kharkiv metro is 35 km long and has 28 stations.

The most popular landmark of Kharkiv is the Freedom Square  (Ploshcha Svobody),  third largest city square in Europe, and it takes the 7th place when speaking about the world.

Kharkiv is one of the most prolific centres of higher education and research of Eastern Europe. The city has 13 national universities and numerous professional, technical and private higher education institutions, offering its students a wide range of disciplines. A total number of 150,000 students attend the universities and other institutions of higher education in Kharkiv. About 9,000 foreign students from 96 countries study in the city. More than 17,000 faculty and research staff is employed in the institutions of higher education in Kharkov.
